The challenge

A mid-market private equity firm with $2.3bn AUM had team members already using AI tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and various point solutions, but adoption was inconsistent. Some had integrated AI into daily workflows; others had abandoned it after initial attempts. The critical gap: no structured use of AI for high-value PE-specific tasks including portfolio performance analysis, LP communication synthesis, and due diligence acceleration.

What we did

We delivered bespoke in-person Mastering AI workshops for 27 team members and an AI in Action keynote for the entire firm. Two hours of pre-workshop calls informed the customisation. All examples and exercises were built around actual work: deal sourcing, portfolio monitoring, LP communications. Pre and post AI Opportunities surveys measured impact.

Key AI use cases

The training focused on high-value PE workflows where AI could deliver immediate impact. Deal teams built portfolio performance analysers that track quarterly valuation trends across companies, and LP communications tools that synthesise shifts in investor narratives, portfolio valuations, and KPIs across multiple documents. The contract review assistant summarises key terms, identifies risks, suggests negotiation points, and checks SEC compliance.

On the operational side, teams created tools for automating document processing of scanned mail, generating MD&A commentary from ERP financial outputs (saving 2-3 hours per month), and curating newsletter content by pulling industry statistics and portfolio company LinkedIn activity. An industry news intelligence tool now analyses bi-weekly news feeds and automatically assigns relevant content to prospects based on location, revenue, and deal characteristics.

It was structured really well with breaks and building on concepts without feeling too overwhelming.
